Caltrans District 7 Headquarters
Morphosis, Thom Mayne
Pages from the FACADE research project wiki that have been categorized as related to the FACADE Research Collection
The FACADE Research Collection was primarily composed of datasets from three prominent architecture firms:
- MIT Ray and Maria Stata Center, Cambridge, Mass. (Gehry Partners, LLP)
- United States Institute of Peace (USIP), Washington, D.C. (Moshe Safdie and Assoc.)
- Caltrans District 7 Headquarters, Los Angeles, Calif. (Morphosis, Thom Mayne)

Brief Annotations on Topic Wiki Pages
Caltrans Concordance
Initial analysis. Table (approx. 140 rows) of file format counts per file extension and DROID analysis of the PRONOM unique ID (PUID), of set of some 16,000 files from the Caltrans building project (Morphosis).
Caltrans Headquarters
Top page for information on dataset for Caltrans project. All told some 26,000 files (includes unpacked .ZIPs), and 13.4Gb, in 1,100 directories.
Includes assessment of naming conventions, use of terms for controlled vocabularies like Building Zones, Project Phases, Architectural Disciplines.
Concordance
The detailed "How To" page for creating concordances, using Perl scripts and Unix command-line utilities.
Source code available on ''Curators Workbench'' topic page.
Stata Center Concordance
Two tables (one approx. 100 rows, other approx. 50 rows) of file format analysis on files held for MIT Stata Center, including file type count, extension, PRONOM unique ID, and format type.
MIT Ray and Maria Stata Center
Gehry Partners, LLP
Data Sets
Top-most page coordinating work activity on datasets as received, and discussions about other candidates.
Data Sets/Institute of Peace
Notes on discussion with contributing firm, for technical details on dataset. Includes some technical details on handling an incremental data update several months later (this building project was in-progress).
Also has links to information on building, description.
Data Sets/Wading In
Discussion on "What We're Seeking To Do" as we plunge into content analysis of (tens of) thousands of files in (tens of) hundreds of directories:
* inventory of the collection,
* development of a classification for it (taxonomy of file types, if you will),
* classification of the collection,
* some recommendations on what to keep and what to divest,
* development of a METS-based or RDF-based ontology for modeling the entire collection
* creation of metadata for the whole collection (which will be easy)
** and metadata for some or all of the individual files.
FACADE Catalog of Buildings
Describes the provisional metadata for each building in a "catalog" of building projects. There will be a fixed set of required metadata fields for each entry. Note that this metadata activity is not finalized.
Stata Demo Data
Includes listing of some selected CAD models (3D, 2D) for Advisory Board demonstration (June 2008). Links to N3 and RDF/XML as used in this now superseded ontology.
Also contains Validation Procedure notes re: PIM.
USIP Demo Data
Includes listing of selected CAD models (3D, 2D) for Advisory Board demonstration (June 2008). Links to N3, RDF/XML, and OWL as used in this now superseded ontology.
Prototype Two/Caltrans PIM
Page to record, among other things, full path and filename to selected Caltrans 3D .DGNs and Form Z models and any other software dependency files.
Also has example command-line uses of the PIM Add Deriv tool.
Prototype Two/Storyboards
Early-on design of high-level use cases, scenarios, for a researcher (end user), and a curator on the FACADE system. Includes some diagrams.
United States Institute of Peace
Moshe Safdie and Assoc.
Prototype Two/USIP PIM
Page delineates the various components of the overall PIM (PIM for base; "extras"; files; derivatives; digital objectcs; etc.). Includes one diagram.
Prototype Two/USIP PIM/Duplicates
Detailed tables of some 400+ rows analyzing discovered duplicate files (by MD5 checksums) within the received dataset. Details of analysis in parent page 'Prototype Two/USIP PIM'.
USIP Concordance
Information page on the concordance for USIP, including table of some 150+ rows of file format types and counts.
See also the USIP Content Analysis (7 pp. PDF)
USIP Duplicates
Summary page of process information on how duplicates were analyzed.
